This notice explains the cookies and similar technologies used on the Social Butterfly website and application, what each one is for, and how you can turn the optional ones off.
The short version. Some cookies are required to sign you in and keep the site working — those cannot be switched off. Others help us understand how the site is used. Those are optional, and you choose whether to allow them. We do not use advertising or tracking cookies.
1. What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file a website stores on your device so it can remember something — that you are signed in, for example, or what you chose in a settings menu. We use the word "cookies" here to also cover similar technologies such as local storage, pixels, tags and software development kits, which do much the same job.
Cookies are either:
- First-party — set by Social Butterfly, or third-party — set by another company whose tools we use.
- Session — deleted when you close your browser, or persistent — kept until they expire or you delete them.
2. The categories we use
Strictly necessary — always on
These make the site function. Without them you could not sign in, stay signed in, or submit a form safely. They do not track you across other websites, and they cannot be switched off in our banner. You can block them in your browser, but parts of the site will stop working.
| Purpose | Typical lifespan |
|---|---|
| Keeping you signed in (session cookie) | Session, or up to 30 days if you choose "remember me" |
| Security and preventing forged form submissions | Session |
| Load balancing and routing your request to a server | Session |
| Remembering your cookie choices | 12 months |
| Fraud and abuse prevention | Up to 12 months |
Functional — optional
These remember your preferences so the product feels less repetitive — your language, time zone, dark mode, which onboarding tips you have dismissed, and whether the live chat widget is open. Turning them off means the site forgets these choices each visit.
Analytics and performance — optional
These tell us which pages and features people use, where they run into trouble, how quickly pages load, and which errors occur. We use this to fix problems and decide what to build. We ask our analytics provider to shorten IP addresses where that option is available, and we do not use analytics data to build advertising profiles.
| Provider | What it does | Lifespan |
|---|---|---|
| Microsoft Azure Application Insights | Counts visits and feature usage with a pseudonymous identifier, and records technical errors so we can reproduce and fix them | Up to 24 months |
3. Your choices
Our cookie banner
The first time you visit, a banner lets you accept all cookies, reject everything that is not strictly necessary, or open Cookie Settings and choose category by category. You can reopen Cookie Settings from the link in our website footer at any time, and your choice is remembered for 12 months.
Your browser
Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies in its settings, usually under Privacy or Site Settings. Blocking all cookies will stop you from signing in to Social Butterfly. Note that browser settings apply per browser and per device, so you will need to repeat the change on each one.
Global Privacy Control
If your browser or an extension sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a valid request to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information and we switch off non-essential cookies automatically. You do not need to do anything else. We do not respond to older "Do Not Track" browser signals, because there is no common standard for what they mean.

4. Cookies and the sale of personal information
As explained in our Privacy Policy, Synergy Relations LLC does not sell personal information and does not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising as those terms are defined under California law. If we ever begin using advertising cookies in a way that qualifies, we will update this notice and add a clear "Your Privacy Choices" link to our website footer before doing so.
5. Inside the Social Butterfly application
The signed-in application uses only strictly necessary and functional storage, plus product analytics if you have allowed it. We do not run advertising cookies inside the application. Your content, drafts and connected-account data are never stored in a cookie — they live in our Microsoft Azure environment, as described in our Privacy Policy.
6. Changes to this notice
We will update this notice when we add, remove or change the cookies we use, and we will post the new version here with a fresh "Last updated" date. Please check back occasionally, and review your cookie settings if you want to change your choices.
